Tuesday, December 10, 2002 Cost of applying to 9 colleges: $520 Time spent applying to 9 colleges: 150 hours Money paid to ETS over 4 years: $538 Cost of "prepping": $480 Going to Rutgers: priceless  .not. ******** way back when, in 5th grade, there was a kid named christian in all my classes. i remember thinking that christian's defining characteristic was the frequency in which he snorted or picked his nose (although, looking back on it, he was probably just a sweet kid that didn't know any better or wasn't conscious of what he was doing). the second thing i remember about him, though, was his love for orson scott card's ender's game. even though, up until 8th grade, i read everything i could get my hands on, i never read ender's game. maybe it was because i subconcsiously shunned the book, thinking that it must be as odd and uninteresting as christian. boy, was i wrong. if i could only recommend one book for the entire year, ender's game would be it. yes, it's that good. so good that i decided to stop studying and finish all 300-something pages of it in two days. aaron and nesty laugh at me for saying this, but it reminds me a lot of "the x-files" in style, and to a degree, in content. in any case, unlike a lot of stuff in the SF genre, the plot moves really quickly (and like a lot of SF stuff, it's also rather idealistic). i'm not going to bother describing the plot here because i woudln't do it justice. so, i officially hate aaron now for lending me his copy. :P i need to stay away from that series or the next 7 weekends will be spent rather unproductively (in terms of schoolwork). --posted by M @ 10:02 PM | |
